Two Not Guilty verdicts in two significant trials!
Two separate trials in one week have resulted in unanimous not-guilty jury verdicts. The trial of Olax Outis, a Dutch activist who spray painted Parliament Square’s Winston Churchill statue, concluded last week with every member of the jury determining that he had committed no crime, despite the claims of a cleanup operation costing “£7,000” (that’s an expensive jet wash!). Olax had been held on remand for nearly two months and was blocked from returning home in yet another ridiculous set of oppressive bail conditions against a pro-Palestine activist.
Sarah Cotte was arrested in a violent dawn raid by counter-terror police months after she had made a speech about the rights of Palestinians outside her university, SOAS of London. A legal complaint had been made against Sarah by pro-genocide groups, UK Lawyers for Israel, and pro-Israel campaigners. She had already faced a trial in which jurors chose not to convict her, but prosecutors decided to waste yet more taxpayer money on a retrial which led to a unanimous not-guilty verdict.
Both of these cases show the importance of jury trials, and highlight both the need to Defend Our Juries and the reason our corrupted corporate state is keen to remove jury trials altogether.
