when i look at the classic designs of dieter rams. i dont like them. i dont think they look particularly good. the spacing and size of the elements, and their arrangement relative to one another, isn't very pleasing to me personally. i feel like they look inscrutable, geometric, clinical. the large blank spaces are probably the most off-putting feature: they bring to mind content-sparse page layouts of the interior design trade press, lonely and windy modernist public spaces, or 2010s web design

    they feel like the kind of machines that might be used on me against my will. the affordances aren't human, they don't resemble or reflect, they simply consist of platonic shapes. like a series of arrows pointing perfectly at nothing. there's no flanges or grips, no handles or bevels. no streamlined fins or nonfunctional grills or pinstripes or chunky indents. nothing to remember them by. they're a napkin illustration of an object
