to the politicians, journalists, and anyone else who thinks that disabled people are lazy: i am a disabled person with a myriad of diagnosed chronic illnesses. i worked all day yesterday. by the second hour, my back and hip/leg seized up and the shaking/pain in my arms got … challenging. my thumb dislocated and the headache made me feel sick, but i carried on. we have something like *checks notes* no money at the moment, it’s not even halfway through the month, and we’ll have to pay rent and bills before husband, who is himself beyond exhausted, gets paid again.

nevermind that i couldn’t walk. nevermind that i kept dropping things (not ideal when the things i work with are super fragile). nevermind that i was in tears and have no pain relief as we can’t afford it atm. i kept going until the work was done. i’ve got more to do today but i literally can’t stand up for long enough right now. *this* is the reality of disability (and poverty) in this society. in this “civilised” society. it’s not sponging off the system. not living a life of luxury on the back of your tax dollars (etc.). it’s pain and despair and a struggle to survive and keep everyone fed and housed. if only they could all spend a month like it.
