Last night I queued up a rather difficult email to the @longhorn@phpc.social list (https://longhornphp.com/2026-future-email). tl;dr: attendance is tracking down year-over-year, and last year was far from where we wanted to be. Ticket sales are telling us that the event has run its course. I disagree with this...IMO learning from other humans in community has actually never been more important...but the proof's in the attendance. I'd love to keep running Longhorn, so if you can make it out this year, I'd appreciate it <3

@ian@phpc.social as it is right now fuel alone would bankrupt me. would have to get a third job but then i'd have even less time 😓 your data suggests the show has run its course but i think the reality is people are thirsty but stranded.

@ian@phpc.social @longhorn@phpc.social this is a really tough thing. I actually wrote about this at the start of the month but we only just published it today, since I saw Benelux is returning https://roave.com/conferences-are-coming-back/ . It's a shame to see the numbers trending so, because conferences IMO have been incredibly beneficial for the community. They drove collaboration, networking and positivity, every single conference I attended or spoke at least. I really hope this isn't the last Longhorn. I'm sad I can't make this one now!
