Norway and Sweden. Two of the richest countries in Europe. Connected by three railway lines, one of which is basically freight only in the very north. Each single track and rather curvy. Even the one between Oslo and Göteborg (and further to Malmö and København). In a sane world, there could be a high-speed line here with a travel time of 1.5 h or so. #CrossBorderRail

    @tml@mementomori.social Is there enough travel happening that it can be vaguely justified? I guess the terrain also makes it pretty challenging (and expensive) to make the kind of largely flat, straight line that high speed trains need. Even Japan is only running actual high speed trains between high-density metropolitan areas much larger than either Oslo or Göteborg.
