@celesteh Not so much a silver lining, but rather an example of Enemy forces overplaying their hand. It was the people's response to that shooting not the shooting itself that booted out CBP. Trump's concern after all wasn't that they shot someone, it was that they got caught shooting someone. Remember that I see this whole mess as active warfare not as "politics as usual." If we are completely unarmed, Trump can simply stay in power by raw armed force, since the courts have been unable to get sheriff's deputies and US Marshalls (who are loyal to Trump) to do anything about thousands of cases of contempt of court. Trump wants to deport 18 MILLION people, and if countries refuse to accept them he may move from concentration camps to de facto (but probably no de jure) death camps. Unopposed though who knows. The only thing that will make the billionaires pull back their support for a transition to full, lifetime dictatorship is fear of civil war. I also believe quality of life is just as important as length of life. I would rather be dead than detained open endedly in a concentration camp. Thus, from my perspective the balance is the number of people lost to BS disputes that escalate to shootings vs the entire cost of losing a continent-wide civil war. A defeat would be as bad as a takeover by something like Daesh. Also note that as a cisqueer guy I am only one step after trans people on "Christian State's" target list. I consider war entirely justified to save thousands maybe millions from roundups and extermination. If I get killed in one of those big street battles with ICE myself, I consider that an entirely acceptable price of victory. I sure as hell don't trust MAGA cops with a gun monopoly!
