For the past few weeks, I've been prowling around CachyOS like a hungry lion around a grazing herd of antelope. I even installed it once, only to return to my usual distribution a few hours later. But it gnawed at me deep down—also because, after many years of abstinence, I wanted to install my old Steam library again and play a game or two. And according to all the enthusiastic reports, CachyOS is the perfect Linux for gaming. That's why I did it again yesterday and gave CachyOS a new – and this time fair – chance. It's really great and incredibly fast when you seriously get to grips with it! #linux #unix #opensource #freesoftware #cachyos #steam

@unixviking I've been on CachyOS for about 6 months on both my desktop and my laptop after not being happy with Ubuntu anymore. Both for work and for play. What seems most impressive to me is the amount of effort the maintainers put in. Issues are fixed within minutes to hours, new kernels and GPU drivers are pushed almost immediately after a few days of testing. If something is really wrong, you can get into contact with the team within a few minutes. They are never behind the curve but careful enough so it doesn't break most people's system. It's curated but you still can configure it even in the installer in so many different ways with tons of options. Their own Proton version is also excellent and comes pre-installed with the meta gaming package. All that plus the optimizations and the fact that you have the whole Arch ecosystem in the background makes it an incredible option. As long as the maintainers don't burn out of course ...
