When I started my transition, I envied people who had a binary goal a little, as it gave them a relatively clear goal. But looking back, I'm not so sure that it's as much of an advantage as I thought back then.
Yes, it can probably speed up the medical transition compared to my journey, make communication easier and save you from a lot of pondering, BUT I often hear them describe how the initial huge mismatch between "goal" and "experience in everyday interactions and the mirror" can result in crippling dysphoria. And while I also experience(d) dysphoria, the mismatch was never so extreme and - so far at least - my dysphoria has usually felt somewhat manageable (especially when I compare my experience to what others tell me).
So nowadays, I'm far more undecided if it would have been better to know from the beginning where I wanted to end up (without knowing exactly where I'll end up, but it's definitely way way way more on the femme side than I expected three years ago).
