@yosh@toot.yosh.as a dedicated pirate, let's steelman this though. It's not that folks using this argument are putting on the mantle of IP lawyers. It's that, legality aside, piracy is separate from reselling. No one defending piracy would be okay with if the pirates were charging you 20$ for the work of others, would they? Folks might not always have the words or references to always accurately express what they mean but it seems like most have a very well calibrated, built-in heuristics for fairness, equity and justice. But yeah, to reply to your main point, we shouldn't let such rhetoric runaway from us into becoming IP lawyers and equating the two.
