When the Rightwing Revolution Devours Its Intellectual Enablers For Die Zeit, I wrote about Chris Rufo – and the long tradition of conservative intellectuals who fancy themselves the vanguard of the Right while actually serving as facilitators of extremism. • A few weeks ago, Christopher Rufo, of all people, publicly vented his frustration with the increasingly deranged state of today’s Right, bemoaning that its “collective brain is getting melted in a vat of slop, conspiracy, and algorithm-chasing.” He’s right! But also: He bears responsibility.

@tzimmer_history@mastodon.social I was thinking about the essay "Who Goes Nazi?" when reading this. I was reminded of Mr. G. A short excerpt from that paragraph: Mr. G is a *very* intellectual young man who was an infant prodigy. So we may be sure that Mr. G would be a Nazi, with purse-lipped qualifications. He would certainly be purged. https://web.archive.org/web/20260217101629/https://harpers.org/archive/1941/08/who-goes-nazi/
