@peachfiend The sermon on the mount and the passage from... Acts? One of the epistles?... that I remember as "Though I have faith, without good works I have nothing"* were always the parts of the bible that resonated most with me. I actually started my departure from Catholicism during my confirmation preparations because I couldn't understand why piety was a virtue. Why should one fear a just and loving god? * Apparently it's not "good works" but "love" -- which is frankly easier -- in 1 Corinthians 13. "And if I have the gift of prophecy and comprehend all mysteries and all knowledge; if I have all faith so as to move mountains but do not have love, I am nothing." https://www.vatican.va/archive/ENG0839/__PZI.HTM

@linuxandyarn You may also be thinking of this passage from the Epistle of James, chapter 2. "What use is it, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but he has no works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food, and one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace, be warmed and be filled,’ and yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that? Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself.”
