@neiljhaveri @mimestream Maybe I'm being IMAP-o-centric, where you'd need credentials. I guess this is all Gmail and you can register for opaque events from them and then manage it? I'm curious, but can wait for the blog post. :D

@rjbs @mimestream Yeah, it’s Gmail API specific. The client tells the API to deliver opaque events to a Google PubSub topic, and our relay service pulls those and forwards them to APNS. The APNS side was tricky tho. On macOS, we just do IMAP directly from the device, since that’s easier. Gmail’s IDLE is kinda sluggish though.
