@Captain_Jack_Sparrow@mastodon.world @2legged@mastodon.ie "Antisemitism" never meant "hatred of Semitic Peoples". It was a term coined (by Wilhelm Marr) to paint "modern" race-based Jew hate as a rational political stance, which has nothing to do with old irrational religion-based Jew hate. Marr made a point of vehemently rejecting "Judenhass", which he called "idiotic", while embracing "Anti-Semitismus" based on the same conspiratory and eliminationist thinking about Jews. "Semitismus" was his name for Jewish political conspiracy to gain world power through national institutions of developed European states. Look it up. So it was exactly the same trick as "antizionism" does nowadays. Again repackaged, again repainted as rational and political. Still equally eliminationist and conspiratorial. The only difference is that antisemitism developed by ideologically targeting Jews as a race living in diaspora, and antizionism — Jews as a nation living in their own nation state. Once you see it, you cannot unsee it.
