@Broken_gamer@retro-gaiden.com I think the biggest problem Sega had back in the mid-90’s was that they overextended themselves with crap systems and accessories that they never had any intention of seriously supporting. They had Sega CD, they had some kind of virtual reality headset, they had the 32x. They rushed the overpriced Saturn to market without really learning how to program for it, and it had no backward compatibility with the Genesis library. They let the Game Gead die on the vine instead of refining it and making it smaller and cheaper the way Nintendo periodically did with the Gameboy. One of the biggest mistakes Sega made was abandoning the Neptune project. Neptune was supposed to be a 32x console with backward compatibility with the existing Genesis library. Sega should have brought that out in ‘95 instead, and waited a couple years to the Saturn right. The 32-but hardware on the Neptune would have been ideal for making cartridge ports of a lot of Sega’s arcade titles, which was arguably their strong point as a company.

  • @admin@detroitriotcity.com @Broken_gamer@retro-gaiden.com I never heard of a Neptune project. Wasn't that the 32X? That shit looked cool af on magazines when I was a kid. ...Apparently it was very limited in games and not that much of a "game changer". Literally.
