Those are generally just detergent and citric acid, primarily, in either powder or solution. I just add a tablespoon or so of citric acid powder when I want to run a clean cycle with no dishes. Does a decent job!

@KayOhtie @baralheia @TechConnectify Totally true, but I've had really good luck using that one in particular because of the wax cap it has, which melts when the dishwasher is finally up to temp when it'll be the most effective. Plus it's easy and I can buy them in bulk for cheap.
