early this morn, 0300 - 0315, i did my bit https://www.theguardian.com/science/2026/sep/28/thrilled-huge-swarms-of-bogong-moths-surprise-nsw-residents-and-may-point-to-species-recovery https://www.smh.com.au/environment/conservation/after-a-catastrophic-decline-bogong-moths-are-back-and-naturalists-are-celebrating-20260928-p610z7.html?ref=rss https://www.sbs.com.au/news/article/bogong-moth-migration-australia-2026/p6jdonqa6 woke at three for a wee, when in the ensuite i was startled by a whirring of wings & a demo of lugubrious blundering flight. initially creeped-out, i reflexively went into Danger Will Robinson, Danger. Crush Kill Destroy mode, only to immediately rescind the order when i realised the whirry blunderer was a Bogong. then an agony of indecision whilst i tried to fathom how it got in, but more importantly how would i get it out in safety, without damaging its fragile wings & basically everything. eventually got it gently in a handtowel, easier than i expected coz its flying is slow, ponderous, & with numerous pregnant pauses, such that it more or less fell into the towel as i held it up in the air in desperate hope. rushed it out da back door, & hope it sends me a postcard later. #BogongMoths
