Well it’s kind of like this. Imagine you hate watching football, right? But then you watched a football game and you loved it. If someone who hates football loves a football game, then it’s not a good game. It would have to be too fundamentally different from what people enjoy in football games to be a good football game. So if atheists are crazy about a pope who is a religious figure, then, it’s not a good pope, you know? I love the Pope, but let’s face it, he’s just adhering to atheist values as much as possible while being the pope. That’s great for us, but it’s not great for people who are not atheists, get it?

atheists and christians are like electrons and positrons. whenever they collide (such as in a football game) they instantly destroy one another

You think the fucking pope is “adhering to atheist values”? What an interesting place the inside of your head must be.

@Zensate@lemmy.world You seem to believe in "atheist values", but they are not: speaking as an atheist raised in a non-Christian religion, what you're talking about are specifically *Christian* atheist values—they embed a bunch of Christian eschatalogical assumptions even as they reject the core thesis. So you have *far* more in common, belief-wise, with the Pope, than you do with an ex-Hindu or ex-Jewish or ex-Buddhist atheist.
