Anna’s Archive, The Internet Archive, and other archivists seek to preserve media intact, and give credit to the original creators. LLM companies use artists’ own work, absent their consent, to train systems explicitly intended to replace them and erase any trace of credit from the replicated work. It’s legally similar, but ethically it’s not even close.
