Surely someone can recommend to me a really good file comparison tool for source files? You may not believe it, but I have not felt the pressing need for one over the last 20 years, but now I do! Bonus points if it makes it easy to compare x64 disassembly in intel syntax.

  • @sschoener@mastodon.gamedev.place Beyond Compare has been my go to diff/compare tool since Forever. It can handle single files and whole directories. It'll probably deal ok with x64 assembly but I've never tried it so ymmv and all that

  • @sschoener@mastodon.gamedev.place VScode/VSCodium has a pretty decent one built in. If you want something simpler/standalone, I’ve personally used Meld for a long time (I think it’s part of the Gnome tools but it’s cross platform). Nowadays I just use delta (TUI) for small/simple diffs and VSCodium for everything else.

  • @sschoener@mastodon.gamedev.place I use meld, but never had to compare anything other than php, js, etc. So I’m unsure how it handles the other stuff

  • @sschoener@mastodon.gamedev.place I use Araxis Merge, primarily because it can format old and new.
