I always assumed that the big company apps with daily/weekly updates that never actually seem to change anything was done as a way to somehow game the App Store ecosystem. But the AI companies do the same thing outside the App Store. Like WTH is the point of updates that are this damned frequent?

    @paul@tapbots.social providing users with a frequent dopamine hit of "ahh, fresh with something that's got better! even if I don't know what it is, it's BETTER" to addict them to the app (more than they already are)? I know it may be counter to how some folks would feel - I for one just feel annoyed, but I'm guessing companies track some metrics eg update downloads and time spent in app and see the frequent updates thing "working"?

    @paul@tapbots.social I always figured it was Dependabot et al + compliance requirements. They have a ton of dependencies and security requires them to update at least one dependency every week so that vuln scanning is green.
