honestly it's kind of frustrating. We are able to nearly figure out how to draw most things on screen, we have the barebones of an audio subsystem through hacking away two libraries and monkey patching them together, and to a point we kept 3DS compatibility (we're gonna be removing that), and we are able to read from and write to disk. but for some reason, the entire general system state situation eludes us. We can have a convoluted system with multiple tables where meeting certain criteria changes the drawable but... this hardly works for single screen games, and it requires updating several tables and their named indices, and the bigger the project will do, the bigger the table (as it literally is a pseudo-dictionary containing drawable names, the location of the file with the drawable, and settings for BGM playback [to test for loops, intros, outros, etc]). And well, that is just... the drawables. you can't just load new things at a time or keep a constant game state that way. So... blerh
