Massive air-traffic disruption in NY area airports, bleeding into other airports.
Cause: A primary circuit connecting airports failed, which "led to the discovery of a backup fiber circuit which had been damaged by construction crews in New Jersey."
The 600 ft cut will take 13+ hours to fix.
We all periodically test backup systems, right?

DOT Sec. is reporting the outage as caused by an accidental fiber cut by construction crew. Nothing about primary or backup circuits. The Secretary is blaming this on lack of funding. Really? :eyeroll: OTOH, FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford said the primary circuit in Philadelphia TRACON failed.
