But the idea that "you did free work for companies" just because companies literally did the thing you told them they could do is deeply idiotic.
You literally said it was fair for someone else to derive as much value from your work as they could manage by releasing your work as FOSS.
If that's not what you want, or now that your stuff is popular you suddenly want to get paid for it, you don't want free, open source software. You want something else.
