@mattsheffield@mastodon.social @kingocounty@mastodon.bsd.cafe TTS, like Apple has been doing since 1984?
I’m not a vendor partisan but I am a longtime Mac user and have never not had the ability to make my computer speak arbitrary text in a broad selection of voices.
I cannot believe that is a unique feature in a Linux distro in 2026. I’ve never tried to do it because the Linux machines I manage all sit in racks far from any humans.

@grumpybozo@toad.social @kingocounty@mastodon.bsd.cafe I typed that wrong, it's text transcription which is very accurate. That has been a feature that the Linux desktop hasn't really had. TTS has been around in Linux for more than a decade.
