Only realized yesterday that this, while a necessary accessibility feature, is placed in a rather unfortunate way...
A blind person almost walked itno me because I was blocking it & I really shouldn't do that, but as you see I'm not exactly alone... why was it put where people naturally stand, not where they naturally walk, more than likely turning it into an obstacle course?
Or am I missing something else?

@jwcph@helvede.net Fear, probably. If there's an open edge onto, say, train tracks or similar, the accessibility feature will generally be placed much farther from the edge than people would normally walk, because the designers worry that blind people might step off by mistake.
