I sometimes see people remark in programming forums about how they use version control to store things but don't care about features more than that. Here's a little trick I used today. My current program stores its state in a tree of text files. (This is already useful because I get version control, e.g. diffing etc. for the data itself.) I realized I wanted to migrate to a different data format. How to manage it?
