Okay, so, not a lot of people know how to recognize left-wing bigotry, so here's some advice from what I've found. Please try to gently correct people on this instead of turning it into even more leftist infighting. General mechanisms of enforcing bigotry: Weaponized boundaries. You'll often see, even in cases where both people are equally entitled to the space, people setting boundaries that boil down to "cut it out or get out". Sometimes that is necessary, but at least at the start the goal should really be to find a way where both people can feel comfortable. Dictatorial communities. In a lot of cases, especially online, the default is that one person is just fully in charge of the community and has all the admin rights. There are absolutely ways to mitigate this, but if nothing is done then the admin's biases can easily be enforced rather than questioned. Acting on bad evidence. I think we've all seen cases of people acting on what a friend of a friend said happened. Please, try and give people more of a fair shot than this. Voting, and then no more supporting. There are a decent number of leftists who try to help systemic problems with their ballots, and occasionally with donations to charities, but that then refuse to actually help people more immediately close to them who they might actually know. Finally, there is a general tendency to hold people to a higher standard of behavior the more repressed they are. A take that gets a minor correction from the comments for a white guy with a podcast can get a disabled trans person driven off the internet. Racism: Cultural appropriation. Another culture's religious symbols? Generic art and home decor. Using a culture's supposed sexism to criticize it without really understanding it, see a lot of left-wing islamophobia. People doing some variant of "Racism? In my community? Impossible." And then nothing is done because the issue is always ignored. Testing Jews to see if they're "one of the good ones" is another problem, along with ignoring antisemitism. That said, I'm White, so I'm sure I've missed a bunch, please let me know Sexism: If you are part of an oppressor class, you're not one of the good ones simply for not participating in the oppression, you're one of the good ones for actively trying to stop the oppression. Ablism: Vilification of cluster-b personality disorders. Holding disabled people to unreasonably high standards or expecting far too much work from them. A lack of any actual consideration for disabled people when planning events. The medical system has a lot of problems with things like cost, availability/scheduling, and effectiveness for people who aren't white men, especially when it comes to mental health care. This should be pretty well-known at this point. And yet "just spend a bunch of time and energy trying to get the medical system to help you" is put forward far too often as the only solution to problems for disabled people. Homophobia: A lot of right-wingers have shifted from directly criticizing gay people to criticizing things associated with gay people, like the kink and furry communities, or just treating anal sex as a especially extreme and weird way of having sex. And unfortunately the left has not done much to actually support these communities and in a lot of cases joins in on the criticism. Similarly, there's a tendency to criticize gay people who don't conform and who are campy and weird and fun. Transphobia: I think degendering has already been mentioned a lot, if someone has preferred pronouns other than they/them, use those when you can. Another big one I see especially on Fedi, is pushing everyone with some amount of gender dysphoria or atypical gender presentation down the same path of transitioning. This can often lead to transmedicalism and enby erasure. It's been mentioned so many times, but seeing trans women as too manish whenever they stand up for themselves is a big problem. And finally there's the simple fact that trans people are the ones who so often fall victim to the general mechanisms of enforcing bigotry. Again, please use this for gentle correction where possible and not even more leftist infighting. Also let me know if there are common things I missed and I'll edit them in
