The chemistry gives 1.5 volts. To make 9 volts, you need six cells in series anyway, though you could use other methods to separate them.

@leeloo@chaosfem.tw ah! OK, now I've got the opposite question. If they're doing it like this because of the chemistry, how do the ones that don't use 6 AAAA batteries do it? Are they just making 6 flat cells packed into a rectangle instead of cylinders? @mattdm@hachyderm.io @kwayk42@sechtor.social
