I'm super proud of how the #openstreetmap community responds to things like Trump's executive order to rename Lake Ontario: the name remains tagged according to what is commonly-used in the communities nearest the feature, and they add a separate tag to note the name that appears in official records of different jurisdictions. So, you could seek out an app that uses the official US name, but most apps will use the common name.

If you're fed up with Google Maps for immediately capitulating to nonsense like this, I'd recommend trying out CoMaps or OsmAnd as general-purpose map/navigation apps. If you want to learn more about #OSM and how to contribute edits to the map, we've got a whole #StreetsMNPodcast episode you can check out! https://streets.mn/2025/11/14/demystifying-openstreetmap/
