@Vivaldi@social.vivaldi.net very good, just thinking about to move from 2 Google Workspace Accounts to Proton Duo. If the tentions between EU and USA rise, who knows what happens? Maybe no Android Updates and Playstore anymore? No MS 365? Who knows...

@Vivaldi@social.vivaldi.net so goodbye. Proton is openly trumpist.

@Vivaldi@social.vivaldi.net I cancelled my Proton account because of the CEO's pro-Republican position. I switched to Vivaldi because of its European origin and hosting. Please make this entirely optional. Also, Mullvad exists.

@Vivaldi@social.vivaldi.net Awesome both from you and @protonprivacy@mastodon.social Its great seeing European tech boosting European tech. We are indeed slowly but surely regaining our own digital sovereignty.

@Vivaldi@social.vivaldi.net could you offer a portable version for users that want to use it on locked devices?

@Vivaldi@social.vivaldi.net As much as I like using software made in the EU, I noticed ProtonVPN in a negative way. Websites thought I was in Israel. Dnsleaktest.com confirmed my suspicions. It was connecting to servers in Germany that didn't belong to Proton, but to external companies with connections outside the EU... Absolute NOGO

@Vivaldi@social.vivaldi.net You could have stated that this was ONLY FOR PCs. I only have a smart phone and a Samsung Galaxy tablet.

After Proton decided to leave Mastodon for not liking the ppl calling out the "nazi move" of it's CEO... indeed the timing is not the best.

@Vivaldi@social.vivaldi.net For all those who are using political arguments to judge a piece of software: software is not and never will be political. Use credible and verifiable technical arguments :)

@Vivaldi@social.vivaldi.net Why did you choose to impose the extension to your users ? I'm not very happy about that. Why not asking first if I'd like to install this commercial extension ?

@novettam@social.vivaldi.net 2025-03-27 16:37
@Vivaldi@social.vivaldi.net as a user of both Vivaldi and Proton, I like this partnership. But given that Vivaldi will now come with a built in VPN, I will soon get notified by IT to stop using Vivaldi on the work laptop. 😑

@Vivaldi@social.vivaldi.net I love Vivaldi. So much, in fact, that I considered becoming an "ambassador." And while I think offering a ready-made free VPN can be a good thing, the timing of this couldn't be much worse given the recent developments with Proton that led myself and many others to wrap up our Proton subscriptions. Whether we like to think otherwise or not, *everything* is political, and I actually love Vivaldi not only because of their excellent product but for the fact they have hardly pretended to be politically "neutral" (and we all know what Desmond Tutu said about those that pursue "neutrality"); Vivaldi have been outspoken about Trump's "Big Tech" friends, AI, and - unlike Proton - are passionate about the Fediverse. So this doesn't seem like a good fit at all.

@Vivaldi@social.vivaldi.net how can I turn it off? I don’t want protonvpn. I used to like proton, but i’m transitioning out of their products since the board of directors is quiet about the online behavior of their ceo. Also, they make misleading about their services.

@Vivaldi@social.vivaldi.net Wonder if this will give a better ser experience for people using Vivaldi on linux, will this finally mean that there is some officially supported GUI for ProtonVPN coming to linux? No offence to the unofficial gui but it's a shame it doesn't have things like the Stealth protocol and alternate routing. Would be nice to see those features added to a GUI interface.
