Why do #Scwhartz spices exist?
Scwhartz is more than ten times the price per kg of British Asian #spice. It comes in jars too small to season a lone stuffed lentil.
Then I saw a photo of a spice rack.Weird device to store jars of uniform size, as if any real cook used all spices at similar rates.
That's when it hit me. Scwhartz isn't about cooking. It's about display.
Schwarz sells spices to people who don't use spices.
Cynical, but genius. Marketing beats eating. High profits for decades.

@2legged@mastodon.ie I learned recently that there's a whole instagram thing where you buy lots of books and show them off. you don't read them. just buy them and brag about them. This reminded me of that.

@2legged@mastodon.ie they exist to throw me into an existential crisis when the own brand stuff is sold out and I have to decide if I really want to spend 3.99 on 20g of cumin or if I can just mash some other spices in there to make up for not having it.
