Google follows a predictable pattern whenever there is a legal conflict between maps: appease each country's legal claims when browsed from within each country, then show as a territory in dispute when browsed from anywhere else. They already do so with Crimea (Ukrainian for Ukraine, Russian for Russia, disputed elsewhere), the Gulf of Mexico/America (America from the US, Mexico from Mexico, both for the rest of the world), and now the Lake Ontario/America (same as above).

@csolisr from what i can see, it only shows as Lake Ontario outside of the US. no both-sides nonsense currently being displayed to the rest of the world. so that's different from the Gulf of Mexico
