Although, the fact that phones makers talk about the number of years of updates they provide, rather than being like an _actual_ computer, where you just like, install software, Like, when's the last time you saw Dell or Lenovo being like "This laptop comes with up to three years of Windows update"? When's the last time "unlocked bootloader" or "rootable" where selling points on a _real_ computer? Never. That's not a thing. That would be stupid and pathetic. Smartphones are stupid and pathetic. @OpenComputeDesign@linuxrocks.online It's not like they aren't trying. Windows regularly drops support for older hardware for "reasons" and new ARM Notebooks try to not let you install other OSs, especially Apple HW. It's just that no one asks how many months of windows updates a device is going to get and the manufactures claim they have no influence

@OpenComputeDesign@linuxrocks.online basically you can reflash a system easily on your mobile device but 'tis not as obvious as with desktop computers or laptops, and from what i see more and more - even with laptops 'tis almost not a thing anymore, people just buy them with preinstalled microslop and throw them away when microslop drops the support. anyways, fully relating to your toots, feeling kinda same. had to quit programming and even gamedev for some time cuz 'tis all about windows and android and for some reason morally 'tis way to hard for me rn. like, honestly even all those custom ROMs are android in the core. like, am just tired of it all ig.
