One possible positive to Sony pushing an all digital future (yes, it is still a very anti-consumer proposal) is that a future handheld system they make could possibly have near performance parity with the base PS5, because that launched about six years ago now and mobile processors became much more powerful in that time. I say this as in a new PS handheld could play the exact same digital games as current PS5 (and not have two separate versions like on PS4 and Vita) but run in performance mode using PSSR to help improve things to improve battery life, and it would not do extra stuff like background recording. Maybe it could have a dock and do the Switch thing too like Steam Deck, but I'd rather it not and just focus on being super portable. The Vita was such a great size for portability. And with no physical game requirement, they wouldn't have another format to print on high capacity storage mediums, like cartridges when Switch 2 already limits to 64GB and manufacturing those is expensive.
