A likely ignominious end for a publication that wrought oh so much damage during its ascendency. One of my red flags is when people say they don't like/trust/watch/listen to the BBC, and when people on the left say it they invariably have The Canary in their repertoire instead. A friend of a friend recently told me they *only* get their news from The Canary, and thought it was the very best source for journalism in the UK. That stung. https://www.theguardian.com/media/2026/sep/04/canary-staff-not-paid-amid-fears-for-news-websites-future
