@benroyce@mastodon.social @sundogplanets@mastodon.social The Germans do this better: they just make compound words using their own words instead of borrowing Greek or Latin. It is less pompous. But a thousand years after the Norman Conquest we are still embarrassed about basic Anglo-Saxon words, so respectable people use French, Latin, or Greek words.
