  @bubblemoth@mastodon.social we understand, Google's tentacles are deep into the Web and the state of the Web is far from ideal, but choosing Chromium was the right choice for us. There's a big team behind it, it's reliable, it's compatible with open web standards, and it's open source which means we can take it and remove the stuff we don't like. As we grow, we hope to have a bigger say in its development. Building an engine from scratch or switching over to another one is just not feasible at this point, it would require years of work and a lot of money. There's a reason why we've had the same three engines for decades. There's other browsers which aren't based on Chromium but depend financially on Google due to their search deals, and we for one don't make a single penny from the big G, so...there's that. Everyone is allowed to choose their browser according to their own priorities. Have a nice day!
