I solved it by having the resource __exit__() kill the subprocess on a second ctrl-c, but now I'm realizing that should be a setting that defaults to sending additional SIGTERMs to the subprocess, with an option in shelltastic to kill instead.

All of this I didn't even realize until I started working with ffmpeg that is notorious for never shutting down on a SIGTERM (or taking forever to). To the point that ffmpeg is setup to take addition SIGTERMs and kill itself if it receives 3 of them.
