iPad Air + Apple Bluetooth keyboard + wifi-tethered hotspot is a surprisingly effective combination. Weighs less than a laptop. Battery life seems on-par with laptops. Use with keyboard or as a tablet. It just *feels* more portable. It's certainly more flexible. Of course, Apple could easily build a MBP with a detachable monitor and Apple Pencil support. They almost certainly don't because they don't want to cannibalize their existing product lines, instead encouraging people to own both a laptop, iPad, phone, etc.
