Ketchup is made by combining tomatoes, sweetener (often sugar or high-fructose corn syrup), vinegar, salt, and spices. Tomato puree is made by blending tomatoes and adding water, sometimes salt and some spices. True, they are not the same, but dipping a fry in tomato puree wouldn't be that bad.
