It's because leftists make up so many lies to support their worldview that there really is no difference between reality and fiction to them effectively. Reality is reformatted to fit their desire. Truth is considered to be relative. Facts are made up by bad faith institutions and individuals. Logic is overruled by feelings.

This is why stories and media are so important. They shape people's worldviews in ways that they don't even realize. The brain struggles to differentiate between reality and fiction, and since most people lead rather ordinary lives, their only frame of reference for a lot of situations is the media they consume.
