Movim is a client. It connects to an XMPP server. This server can federate with all open-for-federation XMPP servers out there. De-federating with some servers is also an option, that's less common in practice that on ActivityPub, but anything is possible. Does that answer your question? (which I am not entirely sure I understood ^^)

@nicoco@pouet.pas.la @movim@piaille.fr Thank you for the clarification. I thought Movim was a client and server combination project especially given the aspect of aggregating binary streams. I did not spend a lot of time studying it, though I am tempted to try it out and stress test/ kick the tires.
