I think Sartre said that in the 40s, possibly after WW2 had ended, and of course, almost certainly said the original phrase in French, but basically yes.

Ah, wrote it in '44, after the liberation of Paris, but not widely published till '46.
Maybe this is a ... more digestible but also more thorough breakdown of many key concepts:

But uh yeah, he's very clearly talking about **_the literal Nazis_**.
You wanna understand Nazi brain?
The psychology of fascists, bigots?
Set aside some time to read Sartre.
Fascists wield language as a weapon, not as a means of communication.
Read some Hitler or Goebbels if you wanna see how that works, in their own words.
Reminder that Trump quite literally kept a collection of Hitler's writings/speeches **_in his bedside table_**, for years, according to his ex-wife.

.. Yes, this was in a Vanity Fair interview in 1990, resurfaced and got a lot of press ... before Trump got elected, the first time.
Not too long after this, people started calling him a fascist or way too familiar with facsists... and then basically everyone acted like that was a hyperbolic overreaction, that discredited you as a _serious_ political commentator.
... **_Oops._**

The ghostwriter of one of his books mentioned that was the *only* book he ever saw in the apartment.
