@QasimRashid@mastodon.social If this doesn't prove to women that complying with patriarchy (in this case, by marrying and taking husbands' names) to avoid conflict and be granted limited privileges is a really bad plan, I don't know what will.

@PedestrianError@towns.gay @QasimRashid@mastodon.social Sharing a name short-circuits so many difficulties in day to day life - from sharing bank or credit accounts to insurance to visitation at hospitals or even just dealing with paying utility bills. This also applies to adopted children, orphaned, or step children just as much as women. To pretend that it has no advantages to change is just as blind as to say it should be required to change. As someone who has changed her name more than once - people should have the name they want. This is designed to disenfranchise everyone who's not had a perfect white Christian male life.
