Okay so here's the thing about slop code. Capitalism exists. Your manager's manager does not care if the code is any good. Work in a consultancy for 12 minutes as someone who gives a shit about good code and you'll either have a sudden onset of mental illness or an exacerbation of said mental illness. Is the client happy? Great. Company gets paid. You get paid. You are "happy". They are "happy". The board is "never fucking happy, this is not enough profit". Reading, writing, or understanding code, is not a thing that the vast majority of people have ever had to consider, including the people who are apparently staff engineers. Coding is the ability to slap ascii so hard that a compiler says "holy shit, exit 0". We have good languages now so that exit 0 is way harder to achieve, but that's principally the goal. "Works on my computer" is a meme for a reason: unfortunately most people don't give a shit enough for it to matter. The worst thing LLMs have shown us is that a non-thinking entity can shit out compilable code even in Rust. And for this I am thankful! I have always found the most annoying part of my job to be the writing the code part. It makes my hands hurt! I much preferred managing my employees and actually talking through the problems they faced. I did not so much enjoy the capitalistic consequence of the game where shit got turned against me and them and everything went to shit. I get that American-driven LLM development is toxic to all existence. But productivity is not a fucking relevant argument unless you are a capitalist who benefits from that measure. Please shit on "AI" in human terms, otherwise you're just being a basic bitch "eternally online American liberal". This shit sucks on its merits, focus on those merits. (also please don't hit me I am a father of a corgi puppy)
