@gavin@mastodon.online that's a good question :) I ended up asking because I felt like I wanted to watch some old black and white films for the art of the monochrome shot. and I couldn't decide, so but in the past I have enjoyed everything by Charlie Chaplin, perhaps less so for the aesthetics. I also used to go through a Bette Davis phase, but while these films looked great, from memory, it was more about her than the aesthetics. and Metropolis is an absolute classic of course.
