Nah Thatcherite capitalism is unpopular in the UK too in the same way, this idea that everything not nailed down should be sold to oligarch interests because they’re supposedly better at managing bureaucracies than the state. A idea that was clearly factual given [points at any one of the past-tense failed public services as the country undevelops before our eyes]. I point any Thatcherites I meet to the rivers foaming with human excrement because of their delusional ideas around the virtues of private enterprises. The problem is literally the excessive concentration of wealth and power in the hands of a class who’ve been as Orwell put it depressingly long ago ‘as useful to society as his fleas are to a dog’ for over a century. People complain we still have a king, I actually mind the king less than the rent-extracting landed gentry we’ve allowed to exist into the 21st century.
