These brutalities go far beyond the usual defense that “it’s all the people at the top, the common people have no chance to overthrow them.” And there are many in Russia - educated people, who have contact with the West, for whom ignorance is no defense - who somehow nonetheless think all the butchery and rape is justified - by imagined NATO slights, by inane and inaccurate “Ruskii Mir”, etc….
