Self-proclaimed centrists keep saying we need to "compromise" or accept "incremental progress" on the "trans sports issue," but it seems none of them know what a compromise or incremental progress are. To help them out, I present 2something's Ultimate Compromise on The Trans Sports Debate Get the government completely out of competitive sports. This means a) No interscholastic college sports (intermural sports are fine). b) No tax dollars for sports stadiums c) No tax dollars for paying the Olympics to be in your country. d) No "intellectual property" for sports teams, leagues, or broadcasts. Any video recording of a sports game is automatically in the public domain. e) No government enforcement of sports leagues' internal rules. In particular, all WADA-prohibited "performance enhancing drugs" must be made legal, non-controlled, and over-the-counter. Trying to legally restrict who can get testosterone because some private sports leagues have rules about it is no different than trying to legally restrict caffeine because the Mormon Church has rules about it. If the sports leagues want to enforce doping rules on their own members, then they can spend their own money to do it. Since we're going through the trouble of changing the laws about controlled substances, we may as well take the opportunity to massively improve almost everyone's quality of life by making all Essential Medications (as defined by the World Health Organization) uncontrolled and over-the-counter. See, centrists, what makes this "incremental progress" is that it actually involves trans people getting something that we don't already have. Sure, it might not give us everything we want right away (we also want free bottom surgery for those who want it), but over-the-counter testosterone, estradiol, and progesterone will be a significant improvement that affects a lot more trans people than professional sports. A lot of people, both cis and trans, will also benefit from over-the-counter antidepressants, ADHD medicine, antipsychotics, and seizure medicine, since those are all essential medicines as well. What about sports played by children? First, I think it's worth understanding that the public perception of kids' sports would change without government subsidies of professional sports. I saw a poll awhile back that a whopping 50% of parents of child athletes believe their kid is going to get a sports scholarship. In reality, sports scholarships are very rare, but the fact that so many parents believe their kid is getting one likely helps the scaremongering tactic of "what if your daughter loses a sports scholarship to a trans girl?!?" So how should we actually handle kids' sports? They should be treated like any other extracurricular activity, where sex segregation is already illegal.

@2something@transfem.social the whole sports shit making T a controlled substance, is like .. if you banned video editors, because someone could use them to cheat in a speedrun anyway, sports are an important part of nationalist propaganda; and attempts at legitimizing its own power and shit- its like a military that doesn't kill people, .. so they'd never do that :p
