I picked up a super-cheap IKEA air quality monitor last winter, to monitor CO2. It also measures PM 2.5, but that wasn’t even on my mind until recently, when the wildfire smoke blew in. I decided to try to get one for each of my children’s households, but I was SURE they would be sold out here, given the air quality. Nope. Went to IKEA yesterday. There were plenty on the shelf. I’m not sure people have registered that this is not just a one-off event. #ClimateDiary #WildfireSmoke #airQuality

  • This is not an IKEA ad, but this is a very useful tool at $34.99 USD, plus a cable if you need one. I felt a bit silly when I bought it. Now I feel shocked that it only took six months to go from a cute toy to a serious and necessary tool.

  • @ClimateJenny@biodiversity.social wow, that's an incredible find! I kind of love IKEA. Totally agree that people aren't getting the gravity of this situation. I was pretty sick for a couple of days because of the wildfire smoke recently, so I ended up biting the bullet and putting together a measurement and filtration system, plus ordering good respirators for myself and my asthmatic mom. I would honestly love to bury my head in the sand some more, but it's time to stop doing that now.

@ClimateJenny@biodiversity.social a smoke alarm tells me to get out of my house because it is on fire. I guess this could be interesting, but does it have any actual use?
